“Rest, Reset, and the Reality of the ‘Just Over Broke’”
Well, I didn’t make it out into the wild this week. No winding trails, no sunrise hikes, no distant ridgelines to chase down with a thermos and tripod in hand. But you know what? Sometimes, the most honest sunrise is the one you don’t see until long after it’s gone — and it still manages to light something up inside you.
This week was about actually getting some rest. Not the Instagram kind, not the “I’m totally recharging while still answering emails” kind. I mean the real deal — letting go of the guilt for not grinding 24/7 and giving myself a minute to breathe. Because here’s the truth: even when you're chasing dreams or side hustling like mad, your body and mind aren’t machines. They need rest just as much as they need drive.
Still, that gnawing reality crept in: it’s time to start looking for a “Just Over Broke” again — yep, the classic J.O.B. No shame in that. The world runs on bills, not dreams. At least not right away. And while I keep the side projects simmering, a little structure and income can go a long way toward fueling them without the panic.
So while the resume gets dusted off and the grind of applications begins again, I’m choosing not to see it as a step back. It’s more like switching lanes. The destination hasn’t changed — just the vehicle for a while.
And though I didn’t step outside the gate much this week, I did catch a quiet moment out back. No sunrise, but the stars were showing off — a clear night sky lit by moonlight and the quiet hum of possibility. Sometimes, that’s enough. Sometimes, it’s everything.
Here are a few shots I grabbed from my backyard the other night. Not bad for staying in.
Until next time — rest when you can, reset as often as you need, and don’t ever mistake a pause for a full stop.
